Football development structures

In my humble opinion, I think football development teams or structures are very important in developing young footballers. I believe these structures prepare the youth to be able to compete with the greatest, such as the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo

Where do these Development clubs get the money to keep these structures going?

School of excellence is part of those soccer development structures that groom young soccer players and it is registered with SAFA (South African Football Association). They are also sponsored by Transnet. The school of excellence has produced great players and some of them are playing for the local and international teams. The school has produced big names in the beautiful game including Daine Klate who has just sign with the Port Elizabeth based team Chippa United FC, Steven Pienaar, Bryce Moon and Bernard Parker to name a few.

These structures scouts for talented young footballers from rural and urban communities and prepares them for professional careers. The question is, do they have money to continue doing the good job that they are doing?

I had an opportunity to talk to Willie Tau  on this topic and he explained that these development structures have agencies. The job of an agency is to negotiate on behalf of the development structure if a local or international team is interested to the player, both parties will agree on a certain percentage that the development structure will get when the player has moved to a senior team. Every time a player moves from one team to another, the development structure will have to get a certain percentage.

That’s fair. At least the development structure gets something to keep the business side of things going and develop the kids.
